You Have a Lot of Experience.
You’ve seen it all. You’ve managed households and run businesses. You’ve lived through several wars and that whole bell bottom craze. The point is, we know you have a lifetime of experience to share, and the desire to make a real difference in your community.
At RSVP, we connect today’s over 55s with the people and organizations that need them most.
Knox County RSVP is funded 70% by the National Senior Services Corporation, and 30% by local community support, including the United Way. Even though Generations serves six counties, Generations is only the sponsor of Knox County RSVP.
Together, we can make a difference. But we need your help.
Knox County RSVP invites adults age 55 plus to use their life experience and skills in making their communities stronger. Becoming involved is the key to RSVP and volunteers usually receive back just as much as they give. Annually, more than 350 active volunteers donate more than 70,000 service hours to their communities. Here are several ways to get involved:
- Tutoring Through Kids Read
- Sewing, Quilting and Knitting Projects
- Mailings – Office and Clerical Help
- Health Care Facility Volunteer
- Vision Screenings for Pre-schoolers
- Little Elves Workshop for Pre-schoolers
- Assisting at Bloodmobiles
- Guides at Historical Sites and Military Museums
- Love a Bear Program
- Pen Pals with Kids Write

RSVP The Senior Volunteer Force Mission Statement: To connect seniors, their life experiences and skills with community needs through volunteer services.
In RSVP, you’ll be offered the opportunity to become a mentor, coach or companion for the people and organizations who need you most. Training is provided so you can effectively contribute your job skills and expertise to community projects.
I-Team Vision Screening
Prevent Blindness Indiana trains volunteers to screen children ages 3 – 6
for Amblyopia (lazy eye) and Stereopsis (depth perception) at area day care centers
and Head Start. Screening begins immediately after school starts and ends
the middle of October. Volunteers are needed for this important program. Training is provided by Prevent Blindness Indiana.
WE CARE – Knox County Military Support Packs
Requested items are packed by volunteers and mailed to Knox County
military personnel serving in hot spots. A request
form is included in the first box for items to be packed in future boxes. Cards
and letters of support are included in the boxes. For a detailed
list of requested items contact Generations at 812-888-5879 or 1-800-742-9002.
Little Elves Workshop
Little Elves Workshop, RSVP’s intergenerational service learning program, offers preschoolers
an opportunity to “shop” for a gift for the adult caregivers in
their home. Over 600 children are assisted by senior volunteers
in selecting and wrapping a gift. The purpose of the program is to teach
young children the importance of giving to others, especially at this time
of year when they are usually on the receiving end of gift giving. Coordinators
Lois Ruppel and Nancy Carie schedule elves and workshop sites. If you are interested
in helping with this fun program or world like to donate (gift items, bows, tags, etc.), call the RSVP office at 888-5879 or toll
free at 1-800-742-9002 or email RSVP@vinu.edu
